I grew up turning wrenches in my dads bike shop in the 70’s. This kind of bicycle was very popular before I was born, falling off in the early 70’s I believe. BMX was made popular in the mid-late 70’s. Where in the world were these bikes a 80’e feel? I’m genuinely curious.
30 year bicycle mechanic here. Picture is awesome but definitely 70’s. Muscle Bikes aka Wheelie Bikes AKA High Rise bikes came out in the mid 60’s and then faded in the late 70’s. One or two were produced later on, in fact all the way into the late 90’s and some companies still make ‘retro’ replicas.
Also, I dressed like that at one time….around 1975.
If you have one of those bikes kicking around, it may be worth big bucks. Especially if you have the fancy shifters that came on later models. Those shifters were larger, car like and mounted on the top tube.
Many memories of hitting that shifter with my nuts. LOL!!!

They were 70‘s. I had one on the 80‘s, when they were already unpopular, and I hated it. Everybody else had a race bike and I had to live my fathers dream.
Those were more of a 70s fad than the 80s.

We dreamed of having bikes like these. In my hood, those would be considered dream bikes.
I was a kid in the 80s and I never saw these. We rode BMX bikes.

When I see pictures like this I think back to my gang and wonder when we stopped riding around. What was the last day we rode as a gang?
My bike had lightning on the seat which made it fast. Actually it had a bigger crank than the Schwinns so it really was fast.
I would have a testicle surgically removed for that blue one out front.
