As a poor college student in the early 90’s, Wendy’s drive-thru was one of my “go to” restaurants in the evenings after school or work.
Their .99 cent menu’s loaded baked potato, chili (w/cheese, onions and crackers), hamburger/cheeseburger, fries, Frosty etc. was always filling, inexpensive and cheap for a student’s budget. Thank you Wendy’s!
I was talking to a co-worker about Wendy’s the other day. Their quality has gone down and I bet it’s been 10+ years since I had a good burger from them. Used to get thick juicy burgers with fresh lettuce and tomatoes and now you get thin dry patties with week old lettuce.
Fast food quality in general has gone to hell the past couple decades. Just to save a few cents per serving by using inferior ingredients.
Worked there 1977-1979. Had that awesome uniform. Had to supply your own white pants. My first shirt was some cotton blend or something, but the second was full polyester. Not a fan of that one.
All I can think is… “For this challenge, you have to find the flag in the pile of french fries. Then there is a flag in that tower of burgers. And finally you have to swim through the Chili and grab the flag.”
I remember them in the 80’s. When ordering, the burgers were plain. You told them how you wanted your burger, normal or specify what you wanted. Lettuce and ketchup or lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cheese, etc. Every one could be “built to order”.
Fast food restaurants are not like they used to be, and not because of price.
Wendy’s used to be the shit.
That chili bowl is about 1/2 the size now. And when you take the rate of inflation between then and now I’m sure it’s equal to 3x the price now.

Carol’s life later improved significantly after she discovered anti-depressants.
It’s bad enough to be working at Wendy’s, that uniform would make me want to end it all.
