  1. i was a super fit kid—track, cross country, lifted significant weight. never got very close to one of these. they were f-ing hard.

  2. I got one at the age of 21 in the military. Not sure I can even come close to 5% of that performance at 41, but I still hold onto that patch dearly.

  3. Speak for yourself. Never got close to earning one and was ridiculed by the elementary school PE teacher because of it. One of the only elementary teachers whose name I still remember.

  4. I got the ‘Presidential Academic Fitness Award’ instead… probably 87/88. No patches, only a certificate (possibly a ribbon).

  5. I earned two of these in the early 70s. The situps were the hardest for me. Just barely eked out the required amount. My mom sewed them on my windbreaker.

  6. I got one of those in the late 80’s – how or why, I have no clue. It was when Arnold Schwarzenegger was in charge of the program, his name was on it.

  7. I was a swimmer and got two of these, one in 6th and the other in 8th. One certificate was signed by Jimmy Carter and the other by Ronald Reagan. Wish I was even in half as good shape now!
