Planes never looked like this in reality, and flights tended to be longer and much more uncomfortable in general. Not even a defense of how airlines pack people in like sardines, which is agony. Just tired of this fake nostalgia.
The reason this shit happened is because the cost of a plane ticket used to be capped, so in order for companies to make any money they had to advertise their amenities to get their planes filled. After removing the limit on the ticket price, planes turned into what they are today; Germ ridden sardine cans with peanuts and coke.
That mockup has nine seats across and a ton of legroom. When the airlines got ahold of them, they went to 10-11 across and added rows so there was less legroom.
They still do the same thing with every new airframe.
Overhead luggage compartments were fewer and smaller, because people back then weren’t idiots who had to carry their entire life onto the plane for a 7 hour flight.
Yes, I know a lot of ticket options bill for carry on but it even happens with full service airlines.
Now they pack people in like fucking cattle. I’m 6’3” and I’m miserable on a flight
Or – and hear me out here – what if we packed like 700 people in there instead and charged them for napkins?

“First Class” layout.
In coach that same width held a 3-4-3. or even a 3-5-3 seat plan. Much more cramped.
The ‘golden age’ of air travel has always been only for the wealthy.
Well fares weren’t aa low as a few hours work for domestic and a weeks wage for international

People were tiny in the 70s
That looks more like a 74444447 to me.

Back before false advertising was illegal?
Corporate greed is societal cancer
I just had a flight and was next to a large woman that just her arms spilled over into my seat and side. It was a nightmare
Looks cozy, but do they serve peanuts?
Very nice. The “good” people.
Just gotta put four seats on each side and six in the middle. 200 rows and you’re turning a profit.
