As the cafe was closing
On a warm summer night
N’ Cathy was cleaning the spoons
The radio played the hit parade
And I hummed a long with the tune
She asked me to change the station
Said the song just drove her insane
But it weren’t just the music playing
It was me that she was trying to blame
And the sky is black and still now
Upon the hill where the angels sing
Ain’t it funny how an old broken bottle
Looks just like a diamond ring
But it’s far, far from me
I remember seeing him in the 80’s some time. Just looked him up and he died of Covid related complications in 2020 after surviving cancer twice in 98 and 2013.
Love John Prine and his early partner Steve Goodman. Goodman wrote the song “City of New Orleans,” a great piece of writing. He was taken much too soon. I think you can find an early performance by Goodman on YouTube,
and you can easily see his talent. RIP to
both. Music has lost the best.
John Prine=always upvote
“it’s a happy enchilada and you think you’re going to drown”
Fell in love with the song, “In Spite of Ourselves” the first time I heard it.
He’s got that illegal smile.
I wonder how far he’s made it through that 9 mile cigarette in Heaven?
Must be on his way to Muhlenberg County.
Coolest MF’er to ever live!
Absolute *legend*, Prine is light-years beyond everyone. I know heaven sure got happier the day he arrived.
I’m still mad at the CMA for deliberately shunning and NOT honoring JP at their awards ni 2020 (the year he died).
IMHO: He was one of the best song writers in American history.
Finally, an Old School Cool that is actually cool.
Pretty Good
That’s a whole lot of cool right there!
“Broken hearts and dirty windows make life difficult to see.”

Do I see an illegal smile?
Rest in Peace Legend, there is no songwriter I admire more 💜
Sweet Revenge is my favorite of his
The GOAT
I bought this album in 1973, and I still play songs from it every day.
This time of year I love to listen to Prine’s Summer’s End and let the emotions wash over me
JP=O.G.
“If they knew what I was thinkin’, they’d run me out of Lincoln”
He didn’t kill anyone

Didn’t he get kicked off of Noah’s ark?
I can see Gary Oldman playing John Prince in the eponymous movie.
My grandmother used to sing Paradise to me when I was little living in Western Kentucky.
I gave the 420th upvote! Illeagal smile indeed
I have a copy of John’s song Paradise that He wrote for me at a pizza place in Bowling Green, Kentucky one day on their order slip.

For I knew that topless lady, had something up her sleeve….
Blow up your TV
Throw away your paper
Go into the country
Build you a home
Plant a little garden
Eat a lot of peaches
Try and find Jesus, on your own
Who?
