  1. Trolley not a train a trolley is a tram engine were is a locomotive is a train engine. Trains are generally a powered locomotive hauling a rake of freight or passenger rolling stock or a mix. Passenger trains can be self propelled with engines under carriages or contact equipment to collect current from fixed lineside equipment. Trains are generally controlled with traffic management systems – usually lineside signalling or cab displays.

Trams are generally electrically propelled passenger carriages running on guided rails in urban areas. Usually, tram drivers operate their vehicles on line of sight. They will observe street traffic signals as motor vehicles do. On single line sections, there may be additional signals for safety and traffic management.

Trams have a longer history of public service than trains. A horse drawn tram service started in South Wales, UK in 1804.
