I thought I remembered John Sessions being there at the start. He certainly seemed to be on it a lot.
I remember Mike McShane doing an improv song that made me laugh so abruptly I snorted tea through my nose. Which hurt.
Ryan and Colin are such a great duo of performers.
Will never forget this, was 30+ years ago. Was the section of the show where Clive Anderson read out scenarios suggested by the audience.
Clive: two flies on a date
Ryan: (turning to Colin and making an offering gesture) Care for more turd?
Laughed so hard at that on the spot gold from Ryan Stiles.
Tony Slattery was outstanding but suffered from manic depression and drug addiction. He has had a career again in the 2000’s but he dropped off the radar for a good five years and still seems a cautionary tale. God, was he funny though. Slattery, Paul Merton, and John Sessions were probably my favorites from the British version.
The Uk version is arguably better than the US version and is more grounded in theatrical drama. I’d say the best moments of the entire show come from the uk version. Definitely worth a watch for anyone who enjoys comedy.
I will forever remember Ryan Stiles dinosaur impersonations.
Where’s the pianist dude? Richard Vranch!
Monday night reruns of UK Whose Line on Comedy Central at 8PM + Thursday night first-run episodes of US Whose Line on ABC at the same time = one happy 12 year old me back in 2000
I moved to college in 96. Our local cable company did not have Comedy Central but I had it in school.
God I loved watching this.
COLIN HAD HAIR!!!!! I forgot about that 🤣🤣🤣
Clive’s laser sharp wit was the best IMHO.
My mom discovered this on Canada’s YTV and recorded eight hours of it for me for my new without-cable apartment. Laughed til it hurt. RIP Mom.
Ps Josie was cuuuuuute
This was part of the cast. There was a rotating group of performers, particularly in earlier seasons, before the Americans (and balding Canadian) came along.
Did anyone ever have a better last name for comedy than Mockery?
Tomatoes!!!
The original whose line had permanent performers Stephen Fry and John Sessions. It was a radio programme. It wasn’t the 1990s either: it ran on radio 4 in 1988.
Ive only seen the US version and loved it all except for Hoe Downs.
They were the dream team!!
I remember growing up to this show and thinking everything will be ok in the world as long as these guys are there.
Proops never did it for me, but Stiles and Mochrie were unmatched.
This was my favorite version. I’m American .
Only one British performer there
Little known fact, this is also the original cast of Monty Python
I had chickenpox in college in 1993. I watched this show religiously on Comedy Central. Four times a day. The British version was always better than the American version.
